REVĪVŌ: A Forest Whisper in the Heart of Nusa Dua
hile Ubud, the verdant heart of central Bali, continues to draw seekers and healers from across the globe, there exists a quieter sanctuary on the island’s southern coast—where the forest breathes at a slower rhythm and time gently unravels its grip. Nestled deep within the lush folds of Nusa Dua, far removed from the buzz of Seminyak’s beach clubs and the polished corridors of luxury giants, lies REVĪVŌ Wellness Resort— a place where stillness is not the end, but the beginning of becoming.
Its name comes from the Latin revivere, meaning “to live again”, or more poetically, rebirth. During my 25-day stay, that idea became increasingly tangible as the days unfolded into a gradual return to myself.
THE ARRIVAL: WHERE RITUAL MEETS STILLNESS
From the moment you enter the open-air lobby, the atmosphere begins to shift. The sound of gongs moves through the space, koi shimmer beneath the surface of the lotus pond and the scent of frangipani hangs softly in the air. Arrival at REVĪVŌ feels less transactional than ceremonial, an introduction to the slower rhythm that defines the property.
In Bali, where spiritual traditions remain closely connected to everyday life, REVĪVŌ draws on the island’s philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, the principle of harmony between human beings, nature and the divine.
Each guest is welcomed with a purification ceremony, a symbolic cleansing rooted in Balinese tradition.
“We don’t just offer wellness. We invite people to remember who they are,” shares Gustu, the in-house Balinese priest who continues a lineage of traditional healers within his family.
The experience establishes the tone for everything that follows.
“There are places that invite you to escape the world. And then there are places that invite you back into yourself. REVĪVŌ is the latter.”
A HOME WOVEN BY NATURE
At REVĪVŌ, the room becomes part of the experience rather than simply somewhere to sleep. My villa opened onto the garden, filled with warm wood, natural stone and soft fabrics that moved gently with the breeze. The materials, light and openness of the space created a sense of continuity with the landscape outside.
Wooden beams, linen curtains and garden views contributed to an atmosphere designed around rest and quiet. That same philosophy extends beyond the villa itself. Wellness here is not confined to the spa or yoga shala. It is present in the way the trees frame the morning light, in the stillness of the gardens and in the spaces guests return to at the end of each day.
REVĪVŌ integrates its living environment closely with its broader approach to wellbeing, allowing architecture, nature and daily ritual to form part of the same experience.
TAILORED TRANSFORMATION: DESIGNING A WELLNESS JOURNEY
I arrived at REVĪVŌ after long six-day working weeks had begun to take their toll. I was looking for energy, rather than indulgence, and from the beginning my programme was shaped around that intention.
The journey started with a comprehensive wellness evaluation, a VisBody scan and an in-depth consultation with Dr. Jessica, who helped create a holistic programme tailored to my body and current needs. The schedule evolved from day to day, combining movement, treatments and restorative practices rather than following a rigid routine.
“True vitality isn’t just physical,” shared Leonardo Altomar, Director of Wellness. “It’s emotional, spiritual, and deeply personal. At REVĪVŌ, we meet you where you are and walk with you toward who you’re becoming.”
Mornings began with three small drinks: a Jamu tonic infused with lemon, ginger and turmeric, kombucha and warm salted water. The rest of the day moved through yoga, mindful movement and therapies that combined contemporary wellness technologies with traditional healing practices at the Vitality Centre, a dedicated space designed around both approaches.
For a boutique property, the range of facilities is extensive, with treatments including Infrared Sauna Domes and IV drips, all positioned within REVĪVŌ’s broader approach to rejuvenation and recovery.
MOVEMENT AS MEDITATION
At sunrise, I would join Sofia, the resident yoga teacher, in a studio surrounded by lotus ponds and open air. Her classes brought together the five pillars of yoga: asanas, breathwork, mantra chanting, meditation and self-awareness.
Sessions ranged from grounded Hatha practice to aerial yoga, introducing a sense of play alongside more contemplative forms of movement.
“Yoga isn’t about the body,” she said during savasana. “It’s about the space it opens within.”
Over time, the classes became one of the anchors of my stay, creating a consistent space for movement, attention and stillness.
THERAPIES THAT AWAKEN, GROUND AND HEAL
During my stay, I also experienced the newly introduced Vitality Centre, where modern wellness technologies are brought together with more traditional approaches.
My programme included CELLGYM IHHT (Intermittent Hypoxia-Hyperoxia Training), Neuro-Relaxation Therapy, PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy) and sessions in the Infrared Sauna Dome. These treatments formed part of a broader programme focused on recovery, relaxation and physical resilience.
My personal favourite was the Infrared Sauna Dome, followed by a lymphatic drainage massage. The combination of heat and massage became one of the most restorative rituals of the stay, leaving me feeling noticeably lighter and more energised.
Sessions often ended with ginger tea beneath the forest canopy, giving the body time to settle before returning to the rest of the day.
FOOD THAT LOVES YOU BACK
At REVĪVŌ, food is treated as an integral part of the wellness experience.
Meals curated by Chef Joshua Purwo Caroko were fresh, colourful and carefully prepared, using locally sourced ingredients, some of them grown within REVĪVŌ’s own gardens. Both vegan and omnivorous menus were available, with dishes designed to feel nourishing without becoming restrictive.
What stood out most was how light I felt after eating. Meals remained satisfying and pleasurable, while fitting naturally into the rhythm and intention of the wider programme.
THE GENTLE POWER OF NATURE
What began as a seven-day retreat eventually became a 25-day stay, giving me time to experience the property beyond its scheduled treatments and practices.
Some of the most memorable moments were also the simplest. I walked barefoot among old trees, many of them individually named, sat beside stone statues held in quiet mudras and spent evenings beneath the Bali sky watching the stars through the canopy.
As the days passed, the need to fill every moment gradually disappeared. There was less emphasis on doing and more room simply to be present.
Healing, I realised, does not always arrive through activity. Sometimes it emerges through space, quiet and the permission to stop pushing.
THE RETURN: REBIRTH ISN’T LOUD
As my time at REVĪVŌ came to an end, what remained was less a sense of transformation as spectacle than a quieter feeling of restoration and gratitude.
“REVĪVŌ is more than a destination; it is a journey inward, toward healing, toward wholeness, toward genuine contentment,” said Mr. Sofyan Hadi, General Manager.
By the time I left, REVĪVŌ had become more than a wellness resort in my memory. It was a place where exhaustion had gradually given way to energy, and where the pace of daily life had slowed enough for presence to return.
